Perhaps when you first realized you were afraid of flying was the day you stood in the ticket office to book your flight, or it might only have struck you when you stood on the tarmac at the Airport and realized that you were about to step into a glorified soda can with enough combustible fuel on board to possibly fill a small lake.
When you are finally on board, make yourself comfortable, have plenty of distractions in the form of reading material and games. Some might choose to take a tranquilliser or a sleeping draught, depending on the length of the flight. Familiarise yourself with the layout of the plane and speak to the flight attendants to reassure you about noises or other things that unsettle you. They'll happily put your mind at ease.
Online support groups for people who are afraid of flying abound and you'll be surprised to note that it is an affliction that affects a wide cross-section of people, from nurses, game rangers, businessmen, teachers, pop stars and even clergymen.
